More Information
Fifteen years ago, the first book was released. It was the start of the "part-by-part" description of a line of firearms books that collectors have come to appreciate.

Now, on our 15th anniversary, we have released a new editions: double the information of the first three editions in doudle the number of pages.

In the years since the last edition, the authors, & others, have compiled a great deal of new information about these famous "Indian War" small arms. The "starred" carbines, the vast discrepancy between serial numbers & inspection dates from 1881 to 1891, previously unknown lock plate markings, finishing methods, "commerical" cadet & service rifles, and the difference between new & remanufactured bayonets, are all now explained to the collector. Also the book now sports a new cover to attract renewed attention.

This book, along with The .58- and .50-Caliber Rifles & Carbines of the Springfield Armory, 1865-1872, tell the complete story of U.S. military arms development from the end of the Civil War to the eve of the Spansih-American War & America's first steps onto the world stage.

The first editions describe the various models of the rifle, cadet rifle and carbine manufactured between 1873 and 1892 on a part-by-part basis according to serial number range. All markings, finishes, inspector's marks and dimensions are given for the seven breechblocks, seven barrel bands, thirteen rear sights, all stock variations and every other part including the three front sight covers Finishes. Ordnance Department markings, inspector's markings and serial number production by year are included, New sections in this expanded edition describe the .45-70 tools and accessories, plus, for the first time ever, a complete and accurate description of ammmition boxes, ammunition belts and belt plates. Ends years of confusion regarding these important and popular accessories.

WHAT THE EXPERTS ARE SAYING:
