In 1972 Bill started a professional guiding and fly fishing school at the internationally-famous Sun Valley Resort. He operated the Snug Fly Shop for 15 years. Now owned by Bill and renamed Bill Masons Outfitters, this Sun Valley shop continues as one of the leading purveyors to fly fishers in Idaho.

Bill has helped to identify most of the key hatches and successful fly patterns used on Idahos fly fishing waters. He has written many articles and contributed to other works on fly fishing. Bills Sports Illustrated Fly Fishing Book, written for the beginner to intermediate fly fisher, is a classic contribution to the how to section of fly fishing works.
