FAR BEYOND DEFENSIVE TACTICS: ADVANCED CONCEPTS, TECHNIQUES, DRILLS, & TRICKS FOR COPS ON THE STREET
Author: Loren W. Christensen
Publisher: PALADIN PRESS, Jul 1998
This book shows cops how to use proven defensive tactics to stay alive & uninjured, including how to disarm attackers, deal w/ drunk or drugged subjects, protect their guns, fend off multiple attackers + more. Photos, 5.5x8.5 inches, 208 pgs.
As a police officer who has instructed hundreds of officers in the fighting arts, and a martial artist for over 33 years, Loren Christensen knows what real fighting is all about. His experience in law enforcement began in 1967 when he served as a military policeman in the United States and in Vietnam.
In 1972, Loren joined the Portland (Oregon) Police Bureau and, while still a rookie on probation, began teaching defensive tactics to officers hired only a few months after him. Over the years, he has trained hundreds of police officers, security officers, transient system authorities, liquor control investigators, law enforcement students, mental health workers, and many others.
Loren, who has earned seven black belts in karate, two in jujitsu and one in arnis, believes that self-defense should never be complicated, because fighting is too fast and furious for complicated maneuvers. He says that techniques, concepts and principles need to be simple and easy to apply by officers who are not martial artists.
Loren shows in Far Beyond Defensive Tactics, a fighting program that fits the needs of working cops everywhere. In his blunt and often laugh-out-loud style, he doesn't hesitate to say what he thinks of officers who teach defensive tactics after only a couple of weeks of instructor school, of know-nothing police administrators and citizens, and of worthless techniques found in far too many police defensive tactics programs.
