EVERYBODY NEEDS A HIDEAWAY
Author: Dean Bennett
Publisher: NATIONAL BOOK NETWORK, Sep 2004
A charming story about the universal allure of a tree house in the forest, & a dog to share it with. Ages 5 & up; 10x8 inches, 32 pgs.
"Somewhere hidden in the woods of western Maine, there is a very special tree--a hideaway tree--in a secret place where a boy and his dog like to be." So begins the charming story of Ben, a golden retriever named Boo Dog, and the creatures that share the forest & marsh beneath Ben's tree house. From a vantage point high above the ground, young readers will watch birds--the chickadee, flicker, crow, and grouse--and mammals, including the beaver & red squirrel. Best of all is a big bull moose that decides to bed down right at the base of Ben and Boo Dog's tree!
Dean's soft, textured illustrations beautifully enhance his story, which is based on his own childhood experiences.
